Praktijktest Zeiss Touit objectieven voor Sony Nex door topfotograaf Brian Smith.

Pulitzer prijs winnende fotograaf Brian Smith creëert iconische portretten van beroemdheden en is bekend van zijn werk voor tijdschriften, boeken en in diverse reclames. Hij verscheen op The X Factor, Fine Living Network en Israël Channel One en zijn werk wordt tentoongesteld in de Library of Congress en de Aperture Gallery. Hij kreeg tijdelijk de Zeiss Touit 12mm/2.8 en de 32mm/1.8 voor zijn Sony Nex 7 body om uit te proberen in de praktijk.

Grote collectie Zeiss Touit opnamen van de Bangkok uitdaging.

Mac Kwan was een van de vier fotografen die door Carl Zeiss uitgenodigd waren om de uitdaging in Bangkok aan te gaan. Ze kregen via sociale media opdrachten van wat ze moesten gaan fotograferen. “I had the opportunity to use both the 2.8/12 and 1.8/32 lenses during the past two weeks. After shooting nearly a thousand images and processing over 200 in the latest version of Lightroom 4.4, I have a pretty good feel for the lens’ characteristics. They both exhibit the typical image quality you’ve seen from our SLR lenses, very good flare control, excellent color saturation, high contrast and superb detail out to the edges (though as a user of the Zeiss ZE & ZF.2 manual focus lenses for the last 7 years, I have to admit the AF took a little getting used to 🙂 Here are a selection of images taken in Death Valley and during the cherry blossom festival at Newark’s Branch Brook Park.”

Zeiss Touit Photo Challenge: Touit in Bangkok.

Zeiss heeft twee professionele fotografen en twee fotografen uit de Zeiss community een aantal Sony Nex 7 bodies gegeven uitgerust met de nieuwe Zeiss Touit 12mm/2.8 en de Zeiss Touit 32mm/1.8. Iedere dag kan er via de internationale Zeiss Facebook pagina een opdracht gegeven worden van wat ze moeten gaan fotograferen. De eerste dag hebben ze de opdracht gekregen om de nauwe straten van  Chinatown vast te leggen.

“The focus is electronically driven and you can feel the motor working within the lens housing. But they are really responsive and felt just like a manually driven focus barrel. I did number of pull focus tests to test just how responsive it was and I was really pleasantly surprised.”

Een vergelijkende test tussen de Zeiss Touit 32mm/1.8 en de Fujifilm 35mm/1.4.

Op het weblog van fotograaf Drew gardner staat een real live test van de nieuwe Zeiss Touit 32mm t.o.v. de Fujifilm 14mm/2.8. In een aantal detailopnamen laat hij de verschillen zien tussen beide objectieven.

“When comparing Zeiss 32mm to Fuji 35mm what strikes you straight away is the quality. Perceived by the user, or otherwise, this is a factor. The Zeiss is a little bigger, a little heavier which lends it a jewel like quality, the controls being better damped on the Zeiss with the movements on the aperture ring very crisp.”

“Zeiss lenses have a look and feel about them which is just that little bit different, with lovely colours, contrast and sharpness, you have to try them to really ‘get’ what they are about, for there are subtleties which make a considerable difference.”

“Best you draw your own as you will be the one who buys and uses these lenses, one is very good, the other is excellent, the Zeiss clearly ahead until they hit F16.”

Uitvoerige review Touit 12mm/2.8 en 32mm/1.8 DLSRmagazine.com

Het verschil tussen een 14mm en een 12mm beeldhoek.

Op de Spaanstalige website DLSRmagazine.com is een zeer gedetailleerd verslag te vinden van beide nieuwe Touit objectieven. Er wordt niet alleen diep ingegaan op de optische kwaliteiten, maar ook op de mogelijke toepassingen en vergelijk met andere soortgelijke objectieven. 

Dat ze super enthousiast zijn over de resultaten blijkt uit enkele korte vertalingen die we met Google translate lieten maken:

Zeiss Touit 12mm/2.8

“To the doubters, the graphic resolution in line pairs / mm can not be stronger. The performance, both in the center and in the corners is spectacular and the full aperture f / 2.8, both in value and in balance for both valuation areas. It produces even a slight improvement to f / 4”.

” The distortion is very well controlled natively, and normalized distances (the distortion varies with the shooting distance) is slightly pincushion, nothing complex. At larger distances, is virtually nil. At vignetting assessment, another surprise agadable: very discreet for a 12 mm focal to full aperture f / 2.8.”

Zeiss Touit 32mm/1.8

” 32mm Planar might say, at least, it is “highly compelling”: in fact “the curve” response reminds us of the extraordinary Carl Zeiss Sonnar T * 35mm f / 2 riding the Sony RX1. The center and corner performance is very high from the positive maximum aperture f / 1,8 and progressively improved to achieve maximum value for f / 5.6.”

“As in the case of Touit Distagon T * 12mm f / 2.8, in Touit Planar 32 mm f / 1.8 distortion is well controlled natively, and normalized distances is slightly pincushion nothing complex.”

Conclusion:

In our opinion, the new Carl Zeiss Touit very amply fulfilled the expectations placed on them for us and hopefully for their own designers. The optical performance is the highest level we could find in Labo DSLRMZ to date, the level of Fujifilm’s own frame for X and next to the very special combination also Carl Zeiss 35 mm f / 2 and the Sony RX1 .

You could say that at the moment The Zeiss Touit lenses are “state of the art” optics for CSC.

Ze gaan in een tweede review in op de beeldoverdracht in een meer praktische test. Zo laten vele fotovoorbeelden de scherpte, contrastoverbrugging, kleurweergave en de bokeh zien. De negenbladige diafragma’s in de beide Touit objectieven geven een fraaie bokeh waarvan hierboven een voorbeeld. DLSR magazine schrijft hierover:

“Because of this splendid brightness value and their more “tele” of the new Distagon Touit, the new version of the legendary Touit Planar for Fujifilm and Sony bodies generates a notorious selective focus effect, with its consequent and harmonious bokeh, again, made possible by the development machining and finishing quasi circular iris diaphragm.”
